Hiking Tours Around Barcelona and Catalonia

Hiking Trips
If you’re hoping to delve deeper than the conventional Barcelona-bound tourist, and sweat out some toxins along the way, then perhaps you’d consider a day-trip into the spectacular nature that surrounds the city. Throughout Catalonia, you can find incredible wilderness, worthy of exploration, no matter what type of person you are and what your interests, stamina level and time constraints might be. And who wouldn’t jump at the opportunity to escape from the bustling city to breathe pure mountain air, while flanked by greenery in all directions?
Our expert mountain guide is one of the best in Catalunya. Put yourself in his hands for a day, and he’ll take you to places most tourists never dream of reaching. He’s a trained professional, with wilderness survival skills, and also an avid bird-watcher, equipped to inform you on wildlife, medicinal properties of plants and flowers, and on the region’s history as well. As you trek, climb, and perspire, he’ll keep you entertained all the while with fun facts and tidbits.
If you’re looking for something close by, try Collserola Park, located in the hills that immediately border Barcelona to the East, and have breathtaking views of the city, the Mediterranean, and the encompassing countryside. Or you might think of venturing one hour inland, to Montserrat, where you can hike beneath age-old rock formations while enjoying 360-degree panoramic views, and even make a few cultural pit-stops along the way; either at the famous monastery, the “Holy Cave” where the Black Virgin appeared, or lesser-known thousand-year-old chapels, hidden throughout the mountain’s extensive network of backcountry trails.
For those eager to travel farther into Catalunya’s majestic interior, we’d highly recommend a full-day excursion to Montseny or the Pyrenees, where a myriad of awe-inspiring landscapes await you. There are literally dozens of national parks and other beautiful spots where you can get up close and personal with Mother Nature, all within 1.5–3 hours from Barcelona by car. Hike through prairies and beech-tree forests, up mountain trails, and past pristine lakes and falls, to discover magical medieval towns, with old stone bridges and cliff-top abbeys that peer out over the valleys below.
When finished, your efforts will be rewarded – and your enzymes replenished – with a hearty and delicious meal: either a picnic at a scenic spot along your hike, or a traditional lunch in a rustic and non-touristy mountain lodge. Let us know if you’d like to start super early in the morning to watch the sunrise from the mountaintop, in which case, we’d arrange a substantial trailside breakfast for you as well.
Hiking excursions are wonderful year-round. Weather-wise, the best times are in April-June and September-October, especially if you’re venturing out to Montseny or the Pyrenees. If you go there in late October-November, then be prepared to bask in a fantastic spectrum of ochers and mustards, crimsons and burnt umber, with “evergreen” peppered throughout.
Depending on your interests, desired tour length, and time of year, we will recommend an itinerary for you. When you contact us, let us know how long you’d like the entire excursion to last, how many hours of actual hiking, and level of difficulty. Anything in particular you’d like to see? Do you prefer hiking in the shade or sun? Would you prefer a picnic, or a sit-down lunch?
As you can see, there are several different ways to enjoy this experience; just let us know what you’re looking for…
